Executive summary: Resolution 75/2026 (INPI Argentina)
The regulations establish an immediate readjustment of the tariffs and, more importantly, create the Industrial Property Tariff Measurement Unit (UMAPI) as a unit of account for the monthly update of the official rates of INPI Argentina.
1. Implementation schedule for new official rates
The transition will be executed in two critical phases. IP practitioners should update their operational calendars accordingly:
| Reference | Effective date | action |
| General update | April 1, 2026 | Immediate adjustment of current fixed fee amounts. |
| UMAPI operability | May 1, 2026 | Fees will begin to be expressed in UMAPI units. |
2. The new unit of measurement (UMAPI)
The UMAPI (such as the JUS in the judicial field) acts as a stable unit of account, similar to "calculating units" used in other legal or judicial contexts.
- Technical definition: The base value of 1 UMAPI is equal to one-hundredth ($1/100) of the official fee for a new trademark application (one class, with up to 20 products or services).
- Tariff in Argentine pesos as of the date of the Resolution (1 UMAPI = $360).
3. Monthly update mechanism
Unlike previous discretionary updates, Resolution 75/2026 establishes an automated process:
- Reference index: The Consumer Price Index (CPI/IPC) published by INDEC (National Institute of Statistics and Census).
- Frequency: Monthly.
- Effective date: The adjusted value will apply starting the first day of the month following the publication of the latest index.
- Transparency: The updated UMAPI value will be published periodically on the INPI web portal.
4. Exceptions and exclusions
It is vital to note that UMAPI will not apply to all concepts. The following remain excluded from automatic indexing:
- Variable fees: Those without a pre-established fixed amount.
- Fee difference payments: Adjustments for previous underpayments.
- Technology Transfer: Fees based on a percentage of the economic value of the contract (Law 24.426).
Strategic insights for IP professionals
For those managing IP portfolios, this resolution requires adjusting billing and budgeting workflows:
- Dynamic budgeting: It is no longer possible to guarantee long-term official fee costs. Clients should be informed that official fees are estimates until the moment the payment is actually processed.
- Portal monitoring: Internal cost grids must be updated monthly, checking the official UMAPI value on the last day of each month.
- Month-end closings: We suggest processing critical filings before the turn of the month to avoid potential increases derived from the previous month's CPI.
Technical note: The implementation of UMAPI aims to ensure INPI's financial autonomy (Art. 92, Law 24.481), providing the necessary funds to maintain digital
