Trademark registration in Costa Rica

How to Register a Trademark in Costa Rica?

Steps for registering a trademark in Costa Rica:

  1. We recommend completing a prior feasibility report to verify the availability and viability of registering the trademark, verifying that there are no identical or similar trademarks with others already registered or in process.
  2. Submit a registration application.
  3. There must be no appeals or objections to your registration.
  4. Once the previous steps have been completed and verified, the Industrial Property registration is carried out by issuing a published notice of the trademark registration.
  5. The publication of the trademark registration is done through the Official Gazette of Costa Rica. If a third party wishes to object to this registration, they will have two (02) months to do so. After this period has elapsed without any opposition, the trademark will be officially registered. A registration certificate will be issued, which is valid for ten (10) years. This period begins on the date of registration of the trademark, and it can be renewed for the same period of validity.

You can start registering your trademark in Costa Rica without having to register as a User. An advisor will then create your client account. Please write to us using the inquiry form.
